WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
This workshop will explore unconventional currencies and assets and whether, when, and how they can be valued and divided in mediated divorces. Use of digital assets is not limited to high-net-worth individuals. Our experts will discuss the wide range of these increasingly popular assets - and how mediators can assist their clients in understanding and navigating settlements.

About the Presenters:
Catherine E. Spanu, J.D., Associate at Bowditch & Dewey LLP, represents clients in divorce, alimony, child support, child custody and removal matters, post-divorce modification actions, complaints to establishing maternity and paternity, complaints for contempt, and drafting prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. She also assists clients in guardianship, conservatorship, trust dispute, will contest, and other probate litigation matters. Prior to entering private practice, she clerked in the Middlesex, Essex, Plymouth and Worcester divisions of the Probate and Family Court, working closely with judges and drafting a wide variety of family and probate law decisions.
Catherine was a Top 10 Reader’s Choice Family Law Author on JD Supra in 2023 and 2024 and has been named to Best Lawyers in America: Ones to Watch, Family Law (2021- 2024) and Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Stars List (2018, 2021-2023). She publishes regular articles on Bowditch & Dewey LLP’s All in the Family Blog and speaks frequently on a variety of family and probate litigation topics.
Barbara L. Nason, J.D., is Of Counsel at Tracey, Roman & Ramos, PC, in Wellesley Hills. She is an experienced mediator, conciliator and collaborative attorney specializing in family law. She provides an array of out-of-court dispute resolution services such as mediation, conciliation, case evaluation, arbitration, and collaborative law, and she has served as an expert in family law litigation matters.
Barbara is a faculty member of the MCLE Family Law Mediation Training and a former member of the Training Team for the Introductory Interdisciplinary Collaborative Law Training. She is past president of the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council (2016) and a member of the Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation and Academy of Professional Family Mediators.
Jason Pierce, CPA, CMA, CFM, CVA, MAFF, is a Senior Vice President at J.S. Held, LLC, and a financial expert specializing in financial forensics and business valuation. He brings 30 years of experience in various accounting and finance-related disciplines to divorce and other engagements.
Jason is a lead instructor for NACVA’s Master Analyst in Financial Forensics (MAFF) certification program and other courses including the Forensic Accounting Academy. He recently completed a three-year term as a member of NACVA”s Executive Advisory Board, serving as chair the last year. Jason has presented at family law events for MCLE, Massachusetts Bar Association, Boston Bar Association, ABA and the AAML.
