Elder / Adult Family Mediation Training 
A Program for Mediators Interested in Serving Elders / Adult Families

December 2, 5, 9, 12, 16 and 19, 2020 -- ONLINE
Wednesday and Saturday afternoons

This program teaches mediators specialized skills and techniques for working (both in-person and online) with seniors and adult families facing issues such as living arrangements, caregiving, driving, family communication, medical decisions, Powers of Attorney / Health Care Proxies / Guardianship / Conservatorship, financial planning, estate planning, will contests, family real estate, and personal property distribution. Topics include:


The Field of Elder / Adult Family Mediation:

  • Presenting Issues
  • Common Hurdles
  • Strategies for Intake and Convening Family Members
  • Using Private Caucuses in Advance of Joint Mediation
  • Working with Large, Dispersed Family Groups
  • Managing Multiple Stakeholders and Multiple Issues
  • Including the "Voice" of the Elder
  • Ethical Concerns, including Capacity, Financial Disclosure, Power Imbalances and More
  • Considerations Regarding Remote Mediation via Videoconferencing

Registration Fee:  $895 (includes course materials and standard shipping within the U.S.)

We welcome and want to support greater diversity in the field, and offer scholarships for Black and BIPOC participants to register at a reduced rate. Please contact us for more details or mention your interest in the scholarships on the registration form (see registration link below). 

Additional tuition assistance and/or work study may be available on a limited basis.

Registrations received after this date may incur additional costs for overnight shipping of materials. (The training may also fill prior to this deadline.)

Continuing Education:

 Continuing education credits are available. Also approved under Part 146 by the NY State Unified Court System’s Office of ADR Programs for Additional Mediation Training; see for more information.
