"Family Law: The Year in Review"
Jonathan E. Fields, Esq.
A review of the recent case law and court procedures affecting family mediators, including a brief review of the highlights of the new Child Support Guidelines.
*** KEYNOTE PRESENTATION ***
"From the Bedroom to the Mediation Room:
What Sex Therapists Want Mediators to Know"
Aline Zoldbrod, Ph.D.
We will learn how to talk about intimacy and sex with our clients and when a referral to a sex therapist might be appropriate. We will also hone our skills in detecting and facilitating a discussion about this difficult issue.
Presentation of the John A. Fiske Award for Excellence in Mediation
New this year: MCFM welcomes new mediators to sit at a special lunch table where they will meet other new mediators, along with more experienced mediators. If you would like to reserve a seat, please check that option on the registration form.
"Three Styles of Mediation: Role Plays"
Mediators: Jeanne Cleary, M.A., Rachel Goldman, J.D., and Michael Leshin, J.D., MCRP
Moderator: Barbara Kellman, J.D., MSW
Role Players: Vicki Shemin, J.D., LICSW, ACSW and Alex Jones, J.D., MSW
Three experienced mediators will each mediate when there is a lie involved. Each style of mediation — transformative, evaluative and facilitative — will be demonstrated. There will be plenty of time to ask questions and understand why each mediator took the path that he or she did.
LATE AFTERNOON WORKSHOP:
"Social Media Challenges: Virtual 21st Century Communication"
Jennifer Hawthorne, Esq.
A highly interactive workshop where we will discuss all sorts of challenges including one party’s use of social media, children’s use and new partner’s use. It would be most helpful if you could email your scenarios at least ten days prior to the Institute to Laurie Udell. If you do not email ahead of time, you can bring your issues and Jennifer will try to add them to the list of different pitfalls that can arise with the use of social media. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to weigh in with their own opinions as to how the mediator might deal with the issue a different way when social media issues arise in the mediation room.
